Al Fresco Dining & Entertaining, Farmhouse Style!

The season for outdoor eating and entertaining amid fresh breezes, filtered sunlight or evening stars and the sounds of chirping birds is finally here! Al fresco dining is particularly popular during summer months when the weather and temperature are most favorable.

To be honest, it’s my NEW and beautiful Farmhouse Collection Outdoor Dining Set from Hanover that inspired me to get ready for some al fresco dining this Spring and Summer. I’m looking forward to some casual, party-like entertaining with family and friends. And whether you have a spacious deck or patio, or small balcony, you too can enjoy some al fresco dining.

CREATE AN INVITING TABLESCAPE!

I decided on creating a fresh feel with lots of greenery with shades of light and dark mints as accents. I settled on these beautiful dishes from Bico Ceramics. Their Fern and Grass dinnerware collection provided the perfect calming pattern. But, I couldn’t stop there!

TIP: Use code “10FARAFERN” until 4/10/2022 to save 10% these dishes.

To create a special dining experience and to add more interest to my tablescape, I included a burlap table runner, woven Napkin Rings in a natural color, textured place mats and light mint candle holders.

And of course, add one fabulous centerpiece (I’m partial to white flowers). Layer in additional serving pieces, candles, silverware or a silverware caddy, and any other decorative embellishments.

Fresh flowers make for a beautiful statement centerpiece (see mine in the black vase below), especially if picked from your garden. You can also consider jars or pots in multiples, filled succulents or herbs as your centerpiece.

AN OUTDOOR SOIREE

Thinking of hosting an al fresco dinner party? It’s all about ambiance. That means adding some flameless, battery-operated candles, lanterns, twinkle or string lights and dimming any existing outdoor lights.

OVEALL TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL AL FRESCO EXPERIENCE

  • Al fresco is meant to be casual and easy so keep the meals simple, nothing too heavy, especially on hot days.
    • Freshly cut fruits are great addition to any menu.
    • Easy appetizers, hard cheeses, crisp vegetables and dip are a nice option.
    • If grilling, position it so to keep the smoke away from your guests at the table.
  • Drinks can vary based on your audience. Bottled water will always be welcomed so keep a stylish cooler or ice bucket outdoors full with H2O.
  • Melamine tableware for the kiddos in your life. They are break-resistant and easy to care for.
  • Patio umbrellas or coverage from the sun.
  • Sunscreen, bug / insect sprays, etc. are a must. You may want to use natural citronella candles around your table to repel those pesky critters.
  • Plan some activities for all age groups (like lawn or board games) but don’t stress your self out. The idea is to relax and enjoy the outdoors with good food and good company.
  • Definitely create a curated music playlist based on your audience and get your outdoor speakers ready.

Have fun creating memories with family and friends, al fresco!
