Week 2: Embracing the Essential but Not-so-Exciting Part of Renovating Our Master Bathroom!

Framing, Plumbing, and Electrical Installations.

MY PROGRESS: WEEK 1 | WEEK 2 |

Whoever said home renovation was easy clearly never tackled One Room Challenge!

We’re in Week 2 of the Challenge and things are moving at warp speed. We’ve taken over our daughter’s old room and are transforming it into our small but dreamy master bathroom.⁣

What we did this week:

  • Created an entryway from our bedroom to the new bathroom
  • Picked up a cool glass door to the bathroom from our local lumber yard for a BARGAIN price!
  • Framed both closets, the shower, the vanity and the commode area.
  • Closed up one window to make space for the shower.
  • Replaced the remaining older windows with new double-paned, double-hung quality windows.
  • Smoothed out the old stippled ceilings, that was a hot mess!
  • Had an electrician run the new electricity throughout.
  • Had our plumber start the plumbing (this was way too complicated for us to undertake).

I’m most excited about about our shower! I didn’t really want to sacrifice a much-needed second closet for a bathtub we’d use maybe twice a month. So my shower had to be large…and luxurious. Say hello to my 4 1/1 foot wide by 8-foot long shower!

It’s a wrap for week 2! I’m tired, the bags under my eyes have definitely deepened, our house may look like a construction site gone mad and we’re all cramped in the downstairs guest rooms, but the excitement of finishing our new space is giving me life.⁣

Follow along as we document the weekly behind-the-scenes action, including demo, renovation, and all the ups and downs of converting a bedroom into a luxurious master bathroom.⁣
