What’s the big deal about Resilient Flooring?

Let’s have some fun and use “The Five Ws” (What, Why, When, Where, and Who) and throw in a bonus HOW to dig deep and learn more about resilient floors!

This post is sponsored by Beautifully Responsible® Resilient Flooring. All opinions are my own.

Due to its array of trend-forward styles, sustainability and extreme durability, Resilient Flooring has become a popular choice in new-builds and for remodeling projects. We installed resilient flooring in our bonus bathroom reno a couple of years ago and it was the best decision we could have made!

WHAT is resilient flooring?

Resilient Flooring is engineered to provide sustainability, comfort and durability. It can be defined as flooring that is firm and also has a certain amount of “give or bounce-back” — hence the name “resilient!”

Types of popular resilient flooring include vinyl, linoleum and cork.

WHY use resilient flooring?

Installing new flooring in your home can be quite an undertaking. And if you’re going to spend your hard-earned money, you want a product that is well-priced, versatile and offers a vast array of looks and textures.

Moreover, most homeowners today are seeking a family-friendly, scratch-resistant, eco-friendly flooring that’s as good for their home as it is for the environment. Resilient Flooring is responsibly made, reducing waste and conserving natural resources. Learn more about their sustainability initiatives here Beautifully Responsible® Resilient Flooring.

Further, Beautifully Responsible® partners have commitments and quality testing systems in place to keep harmful materials such as lead out of their products.

WHERE & WHEN to use resilient flooring?

If you’re wondering which areas in your home would be best for Resilient Flooring, I’d especially recommend any indoor, high-traffic areas and/or areas prone to wetness like a bathroom, kitchen or laundry room. They have great waterproof options. In fact, our next update will be our laundry room and we intent to use resilient flooring.

You can also use resilient flooring in your basements and really anywhere in your home. The styles, textures and color options are so beautiful, they are sure to accommodate any room and/or design style.

WHO can use and/or install resilient flooring?

Resilient floors are a great option for anyone. And, depending on your choice of resilient flooring, it’s possible to install it yourself.

After much research, we settled on a rigid core luxury vinyl plank (Milford Oak Luxury Vinyl Tile – Solitary Gray). This particular product was a bit easier to install and so we decided to do it ourselves. It required a bit of elbow grease (cutting around the door jams beings the hardest) but the click system made this an easier DIY Project.

A word of caution, however: Installing resilient flooring can be a labor-intensive process, especially if your floors or subfloors aren’t level or have other existing issues.

HOW to clean and maintain resilient flooring?

These have been the easiest floors for me to clean and maintain.

About once a week, I use a hand held vacuum cleaner with a long extension hose to pick up any debris, grit or grime.

For a deeper clean, I use a steam mop (which only uses water) to damp-mop the floors. Whenever possible, you want to avoid harsh and abrasive cleaners or solutions. It’s best to use a nonabrasive, all-purpose pH-neutral cleaner.

And because flooring care may vary slightly, always check the cleaning / waxing instructions recommended by the specific flooring manufacturer.

I hope I’ve answered some of your questions and helped shed some light on resilient flooring and the benefits of installing them. You can always get more details at Beautifully Responsible® Resilient Flooring or your can drop me a comment below.
