Pot Filler Faucets, are they a good idea?

Answering the top 5 most asked questions about my recent pot filler installation!

Before we get into it, let’s start with a quick overview of what a pot filler is and what is does.

A pot filler faucet is a single-temperature faucet that is installed and mounted above your stovetop or range. Its main function is to fill pots of water directly on the stove rather than in the sink.

The pot filler faucet can extend and/or swing out, left or right, on a long jointed arm to fill your pots. It can then be folded and tucked away when not in use.

1. Is it worth it to get one?
Absolutely! Not only are they all the rage and are quite pretty to look at, the convenience is literally EVERYTHING! No more carrying heavy, water-filled pots across the room when you can easily and conveniently fill your pot right on the stove. That means less lugging heavy pots back and from sink to stove. And also means less physical strain on your back, wrists, hands and arms. And, less water spills and messes on your kitchen floors.

2. Was it expensive to install?
Pot filler faucets can range anywhere from $300 to $1,500+ in purchase price. Installation costs can vary just as widely as the cost of purchase.

My plumber charged about $500 to install because the walls were already opened (I was having a new backsplash installed). Also, my sink is only about 3 feet or so from my stove range (this reduced labor costs). It’s probably best to budget between $500 to $1,500 for installation.

3. What’s the best location to install a pot filler?
Typically, pot filler faucets are installed on the wall over a stovetop or range. Depending on your wall space and the style you choose, pot fillers should be mounted about 20 to 24 inches above your stove and high enough for the tallest pot.
Exact wall location placement is a personal preference. Mine is installed in the center, even to the edges of both sides of my stove and can easily unfold to reach all of my six burners.

4. How often do you use your pot filler?
I use mine every day! Did you know that water weighs nearly eight and a half pounds per gallon? And when you add the additional weight of pots (I use the heavy ceramic ones), it can be quite a strain to carry around the kitchen.

Plus, I use my pot filler for just about everything: from filling up my tea kettle to my watering can and flower vases and more.

5. Do pot fillers increase the value of your home?
It would seem the addition of a pot filler – also known as a potboiler or kettle faucet – can definitely add value to your home. A realtor friend of mine estimated a three percent asking price premium with a pot filler.

They’re a definite perk, an upgrade found in more expensive homes. To me, a pot filler is a necessity, a must when upgrading our kitchen. And aside from making a definite design statement, the added bonus of functionality and convenience makes it worth the investment.
